1) How would you describe the duties of the office of Register of Deeds and what are your qualifications for this position?
How would I describe the duties of the office of Register of Deeds?
The duties of the Office of Register of Deeds includes but is not limited to primary responsibility for recording, filing, preserving and addressing the requests of the citizens of Riley County regarding documents, records, reports and other deeds and certificates of value.
There are many different types of documents, records and fees that are the responsibility of the Register of Deeds office. (I won’t list them here but there are more than 220 of them) The Register of Deeds must be someone who can lead and manage this department, and be accountable and responsible for the staff and daily functions of the office. What are my qualifications for this position?
As CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation for seventeen years I have acquired the knowledge, skills, experience and education to lead, supervise, and manage the Register of Deeds office expertly, efficiently and productively. I have the technological background to bring the office into the 21st Century with better technology and staff cross training. I know the Register of Deeds office can improve its technology and its service to the public. It can also improve its service and public relations with the public it serves and with the local, county, and state levels of government. I have the necessary qualifications to make this all happen. It is time for improvement. It is time for change.
2) Why are you running for election/re-election?
I am running because I believe it is time for change. It is time for new leadership. I am that change. I am that new leadership. I have the leadership, education, knowledge, skills and technological experience to ensure improvement to the Register of Deeds office. Relations with the public and various levels of government must be better. I shall bring a new perspective to the position. I honestly believe I can be a better Register of Deeds. I will serve with Ethics, Integrity and Honesty.
3) What improvements, if any, would you make to the current system of record management or to interactions with the public?
Where do I begin? Needless to say the aforementioned comments address this issue. New technologies are available that can improve, simplify and access the current records management system and make it more integrated, cost and time efficient. Staff cross training and public relations are the major complaints that I have heard about the current office. I propose continuous cross training of staff and more timely review of complaints concerning personnel.
I shall close my response to your Voters’ Guide questionnaire by leaving you with a quote from Albert Einstein who said it best in a speech he gave in 1955:
“The significant problems we face cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created the problem.”
